COVID19: Lagos State Reels guidelines as worship centres reopens by August 7, 2020.


Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has advised religious leaders to consider holding services in open spaces and well-ventilated areas “as circumstances of faith and tradition permit” as worship centres are about to be reopened.

Sanwo-Olu who announced the plans to reopen worship centres at a briefing on Saturday, said, “Places of worship in Lagos will now be opened from Friday, the 7th of August for our Muslim worshippers, and on Sunday, the 9th of August for our Christian worshippers.

The Governor explained that, “it is mandatory to provide handwashing facilities and hand sanitisers at the various worship places. Handshakes, hugs, high-fives are not permitted during gatherings and should be emphasised and displayed at the various places of worship,” he added

He emphasized the need for citizens to still ensure that face masks policy are maintained throughout the duration of the services while regular cleaning and disinfection of the facilities are to be carried out to maintain clean and hygiene environment before, during and after the services.

He assured citizens of government’s commitment to
monitoring the practices for the next couple of weeks and see how compliance gets as they move along as he encouraged worship centres to hold multiple services on those days but they should restrict it to those designated days of worship as only 50%  gathering of their maximum capacities, either at the church or at the mosque will be allowed at a go.

This includes Churches who have a Saturday worship day to also be allowed  hold worship.

Recalled that, worship centres had been shut in the state since March as part of measures to curtail the spread of the novel coronavirus disease.
