A member of the Plateau State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations has been elected into the Governing Council of the NIPR. She is Professor Mrs. Sarah Benjamin Lwahas,mnipr, a lecturer with the University of Jos and one-time vice Chairperson of the Plateau State Chapter of the NIPR.
Professor Sarah Lwahas was elected during a highly contested election that took place recently at the Annual General Meeting (AGM)of the NIPR in Abuja.
Prof Lwahas was one of the 28 contestants from 36 states including Abuja, that vied for elections into the 17 elected-membership seats of the NIPR governing Council, for which the Plateau State Chapter sponsored two candidates. Prof. Lwahas now replaces Barr. Haroun Audu,fnipr, from Plateau state, who voluntarily stepped down after serving three terms in the Council.
The well-mobilized contingent from the Plateau Chapter attempted the unprecedented feat of presenting two members to the Council but fell short due to the intricacies involved with the process of the election.
Meanwhile, the Chapter Chairman Bajeh Thomas on behalf of the Executive Committee of the Plateau State Chapter of the NIPR has expressed deep appreciation to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Plateau, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, who supported the state contingent and was represented at the conference by the Plateau State commissioner for information, Hon. Musa Ibrahim Ashoms, who came in the company of the Director of Press to the Governor, Gyang Bere. The Distinguished Senator Simon Mwatkon, Senator representing Plateau North, as well as the Director General/ Chief Executive Officer of the ITF, Sir Joseph Ari, KSM amongst other stakeholders gave their support which resulted in the successful participation of the Plateau Chapter of the NIPR in Abuja.
Meanwhile, Dr Ike Neliaku, fnipr has emerged as the New President and Chairman-in-Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations. He won against his other contestant from Lagos State, Mrs Nkechi Ali-Balgun, with 830 votes.
The new council will be inaugurated at a later date by the Hon. Minister of Information and National Orientation.
